Mike’s first birthday, Jan 26, 1964. This is probably when Mike decided he wanted to take pictures thruout his life. OR…He was fascinated that a little box could make that much light.Dad with “Feb “warm-spell” front porch construction.(BUT not too warm… with snow still visible!) This was before sheathing was available that had greater insulating value. Note the framing for side-lites. (We later eliminated those, moved the door to the south side and put in a 3-lite casement.)b0193-What 1806 looked like when we started closing in the front porch… but before we hired Criswell to do the BIG addition.b0193A South side of 1806 before addition. The white-painted coal chute into the basement came with the house… but by the time we bought 1806, the furnace was already natural gas. The double windows looked into the living room…and so looked into the new garage, built as part of the next construction.Crisswell and Son framing in new addition, Spring 1964. We later changed out the doghouse dormer to a shed dormer.This original roof line proved to be too flat for good water shedding, and a second set of trusses was added to increce the slope without reducing the interior room ceiling height.Addition by Criswell and Sons. The “flagstone” walk was laid by breaaking up an original sidewalk the went from the front steps out to the (then) oiled road, later paved. Some of those pieces now (2020) form the steps on the east side of the back porch. The doghouse dormers proved to be impractical and were later absorbed into one shed dormer. Note the HUGE Ash tree in (then Freeman’s, backyard… in its teenage.
