Family History-1974

Late snowstorm, probably Mar 1974. Dad & Steve. Kids out of school for almost a week!
Steve, late snowstorm, probably Mar 1974. Great snow for a fort.
When we first built the back porch, we only used alum. frame screens, so we tacked up plastic to give a little winter protection to that side of the house. Later (I think Jer and Mike) made it more weather tight with 3track storm combos.

Pete in the snow fort.
Steve helping dad dig out the car… about one block from 1806. (Ahh, those rear-wheel-only drives!)
Steve clearing with chainsaw at Rabbit Hill.
Ron clowning about how he can pull a multiflora rose out of the ground… all by himself @ Rabbit Hill.
R-i-i-ight!
Jerry staining the main roof rafters for the first gazebo at Rabbit Hill.
Ron painting the tension ring for the roof rafters in the gazebo at Rabbit Hill.
George Ubanus made the ring in one of the machine shops at Purdue.
George died in Nov. 2020
Sheathing and paper going on the roof of the first gazebo at RH
Kathy on the porch of the gazebo at Rabbit Hill. The stove was eventually centered in the building and the chimney went thru the tension ring, out the roof.
Bought it from some folks in Fountain Co.
Pat at Rabbit Hill.
Jenny and Pat at Rabbit Hill.
Kathy in foreground, Steve standing by generator in back of the van, Pat to the right edge of the pic.
Trivia: the generator was the only way to run power tools when building the gazebo. Mike still may have the generator as backup power.
I think Steve replaced the motor on it at least once, maybe more.
Digging the cellar was beginning the job of converting the “new” garage into the present dining room. Judging by the flowering dogwood, it’s Mar-Apr 1974.
Trivia: We had the used IH farm freezer (north side of house) put in the basement with the front loader.
Machine work is done on the cellar at 1806. Next came hand work breaking a hole in the wall of the basement and beginning forming up. Spring 1974
Steve working on the second-hand self propelling mower before we bought our first WheelHorse. Summer 1974.
Steve on his mini-bike at Rabbit Hill. Schwaiger’s car in background.
Steve appears to be sighting where the new REMC utility line will pass thru the trees along the creek. I think I am pulling a sight rope taut, but I might only APPEAR to be working… for the pic. (Note who did the climbing!) Summer 1974. Pete grinning at the base of the pole..
The first Wheel Horse tractor (Ron at the reins), which was later stolen from where it was parked under the gazebo. Summer 1974. Bought a 2nd tractor, which eventually went to Pat.
Dorothy and Ron at Rabbit Hill after the wildness had been conquered, but before we had planted all the white pine on the slope from the road.
