Thanks to Carrie and Chad for supplying these pix of the re-construction of their historic….soon to be finished new home!
Hello All,
It was built in 1863, by the Elder Winans who was a prominent person in Battle Ground at the time. He and John Purdue worked together at one point to found Purdue University in Battle Ground, but they had a falling out and that is why Purdue is located in West Lafayette instead of Battle Ground. Also, that is why the street name is College Street.
I am not certain on any other history other than that at this point in time.
We did find old newspapers in the walls from the 1890s. The newspaper at the time was called the Christian Advocate. -Carrie & Chad
